We tried something new today. In efforts to find something fun, physical, and different, Jason ran across the Spartan race. The race was held at one of our favorite places, The Wilds. This race is 12+ miles with very difficult obstacles. Pretty inspiring to see SO MANY people taking on this challenge. I would have to train for a year to be able to complete this challenging course.
For kids 9-14, they had a 1-mile option, which ended up to be perfect for the boys first mud run.
The day started out chilly, about 60 degrees, overcast and misty. It had rained heavily the night before, so we were muddy by the time we got to the corral. Louden managed to fall down twice before the race was even close to starting. They suggested to arrive 2 hours early, so there was a lot of waiting around. Waiting around turns into horseplay.
They're off!
Louden is wearing the blue shirt, Keegan black. We couldn't see the boys for most of the race, but we did our best running around to see a few obstacles.
Louden struggled a bit with this one. Once Jason gave him some guidance on where to put his feet, he made it right over.
Final obstacle!
Happy boy.
Louden ran around these last few puddles. I can't say I blame him.
Done! Jason timed them at 11:45, finishing within seconds of one another. Keegan was ahead of Louden for most of race from what we could see.
Not the best finishing shot, but I had my zoom lens on my camera. I really need a 15-300mm so I am always ready.
They boys were stoked and so were we. They did great. We're excited to try this again and are hopeful to find a family race to do together.
Maybe Nightmareish 5K in August?
