5th Year Well Check

Even at 5 years old the boys are still entertained by the noise of the paper on the bench at the pediatrician's office.  Watching them, I had flashbacks of them sitting in their diapers waiting on the nurse to come in.   Funny how some things never change.

Keegan (L) & Louden (R)

This was an uneventful check up.  My pedi gives great advice on raising kids at every well check, so we mostly discussed important things to do.  He said up until now it's been easy (huh?) and all about safety.  Now is the time you start "raising" your kids.  You teach them right from wrong.  You create good readers.  You teach them to talk about their feelings.  If you don't do it now, don't think you're going to ask a 14YO how he is feeling.

Since we got 4 shots last year, we weren't expecting any this time.  Until the nurse gave me our shot record for kindergarten registration.  She noticed we skipped the first MMR at 15 months. The boys weren't excited to hear this. They went on and on how they should have gotten it when they were babies. Regardless, they took it like a champ and was excited to get a lollipop out of the deal.

Keegan is 55.8 lbs and 47" tall
Louden is 55 lbs and 46.5" tall (97th Percentile)

Since the boys recognized that Keegan was a bit bigger, they can't seem to understand that Louden is the older one.  Some twin parents withhold this info, I don't see the harm in them knowing.  We don't talk about birth order often, so it doesn't seem to be a "big deal".

All in all, everything is great right now.  This, by far, is the most fun age.  They're claiming their independence, they're helpful, and they are more obedient than ever!  Can we hit the pause button?

5th Birthday!

We had the boys' 5th party at the Westerville Community Center.  Being March, you can't predict the weather, so a destination party is the safest choice.  I chose a games party since pool parties require an adult for each kid and there was no way I was wearing a suit in public.

I made the invites and printed them with Mixbook.  Notice the theme: Whales and Crocodiles.  We made it work.

Before the other guests arrived, we played.

The Cake came with the party, baked at a local bakery.

The kids played Duck Duck Goose.

And some fun parachute games.  Ages 3-5 don't follow directions very well, but they still had fun.  They'll appreciate this one day.

The favorite game was "Cat and Mouse".  One kid underneath (mouse), the other on top (cat), everyone else making waves.  The cat had to catch the mouse.

snacks!

 Make a wish!

The birthday boys!  Notice their shirts?  Blue Whale and a Crocodile :)

Gifts!

We gave all our friends our favorite books.  "Whale of a Tale" from Louden and "Miles and Miles of Reptiles" from Keegan.

Our best attempt at a group photo.

& the Thank you card, which I made and had printed from Mixbook.  There was a place on the back for notes.  I wrote the note, the boys wrote their names.  I do this every year, I love that everyone gets a picture from the day.

Obligatory family shot in the windy parking lot.

Overall: Success!  Low stress, not too much fuss from mommy and all the kids had a blast!
